About Yala National Park
Yala is Sri Lanka's most visited national park, and the reason is straightforward: it has one of the highest densities of leopards anywhere in the world, alongside elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and a long bird list. Block 1, the most-visited section, is where most jeep safaris run.
The park closes for roughly a month each year (usually September into October) for the dry season and controlled burns, so it's worth checking dates if a Yala safari is central to your trip.

Is a leopard sighting guaranteed?
No sighting in the wild is guaranteed, but Yala's leopard density gives it some of the best odds anywhere. Multiple safaris improve your chances.

Is Yala crowded?
