Pasikudah's bay is unusually shallow and calm for a stretch this size, which is the main reason it's developed into a beach resort area over the last decade or so — the water is warm, flat and safe for swimming well out from shore.
It sits on the east coast's dry-season calendar, opposite the south and west coasts, so it makes a good option in the months when Sri Lanka's more famous beaches are less settled.
