About Kalpitiya
Kalpitiya is a narrow peninsula on the north-west coast, separated from the mainland by a lagoon that's become Sri Lanka's main kite-surfing destination — flat water on the lagoon side, waves on the ocean side, and a steady wind during the May-to-October season.
It's also one of the better spots on the island for dolphin watching, with large pods regularly seen offshore, and the coastline generally is far less developed than the south coast's beach towns.
